Capital World Financial warns of e-mail scam
Capital World Financial is warning its customers about an e-mail scam that tries to trick them into giving out their account numbers and PINs over the internet.
The financial company said some of its customers have received e-mails that appear to be sent from them, asking them for their personal information.
The e-mail looks authentic and links to the main webpage of Capital World Financial, but a pop-up box requesting account information actually sends that information to a server in another country.
The scam e-mail contains this text:
This e-mail was sent by the Capital World Financial server to verify your e-mail address. You must complete this process by clicking on the link below and entering in the small window your Capital World Financial Account Number and Web Password.
This type of scam is called a phishing scam because it lures customers into giving away their account information.
