Complaint: I lease a house through Mellen Powell and Kim Summers of Coral Shores Realty at 2200 USD per month. In the lease it stated the house would be cleaned prior to move in. I paid first, last, and security at 6600 USD total. Upon moving in I have found that the house was not cleaned as it said it would be in the lease. The house is old and the cabinets were full of droppings from insects with a 30 year old yellow film peeling up off the cabinets in the kitchen. Other closets in the house had the same droppings on the selves in them and the same with all the other cabinets/closets. There is also a musty old person smell in the house, but the prior occupant was 87 years old so this was expected by me. I figured it would air out and I would keep the windows open for the first week or so. Although the house was not cleaned, I like the house alot and my girlfriend and her mother told me they would help me clean it. They spent a whole day on the weekend cleaning the kitchen cabinets, peeling off a disgusting old yellow film the n scraping off the glue with razor blades and then wiping the wood down underneath. I took pictures of how it was before they did this cleaning, and I paid them 300 dollars to do it for me since my girlfriend needs the money. There were the cabinets up high and low in the kitchen. The house is old and there was an old man living it is so I did not mind the smell and thought it would go away however after the first week it still remained. I purchased an BlueAir 650E aircleaner for 870 dollars with tax to clean the air for me. The house was on a canal so I was in love with the view and figured with hard work and cleaning it would become a great place to live. When I first moved into the house I saw dead cockroaches on the ground, but I did not think nothing of it since I figured they came in when no one was living there, (I did not realize the droppings in the cabinets could have come from them at the time, I did not know they were droppings). Before I moved in the realtors Mellen and Kim told me everything would be cleaned and fixed for me, so I thought nothing of all this. Each night when I would sleep I would wake up and find dead cockroaches on the ground the next morning. It did not really bother me at first, I thought they were just some left over ones in the house, and being dead I just swept them up. As day by day went by they started to appear more and more, and now they are alive, and they are big cockroaches. I saw 5 of them alive yesterday at different times and in different places. This stated to trouble me so I looked it up and did research and came to find out the must smell is from a cockroach infestation and not an old man smell. I have been trying to contact this realtor but she dodges my phone calls and does not return them to me. I contacted to owner instead and meet with the owner. We discussed the issues and the owner told me she would give me all my money back if I moved out, since the house was not cleaned as it said in the lease and since it is infested with cockroaches. This was around 1pm today, I tried calling the realtor Mellen and Kim and that time but was not able to get ahold of them. Later in the day around 6pm I called the owner again to ask her when she would give me back my money so I can get another place to live and move out after being here for less than two weeks. The owner told me that she wanted me to stay for 60 days and would only give me back my security as the realtor instructed. Come to find out this realtor told the owner to keep my money and not let me move out as the owner was originally going to do. She did this to keep her commission. The owner of the house was going to let me leave and give me back the $6600 dollars I paid until the realtor talked to her and changed her mind. The realtor is continuing to not answer my phone calls and now I think I am going to an attorney to get my money back for a house that was not cleaned as the lease said and is infested with cockroaches, no potential roach problem was disclosed in the lease by the owner or the realtor. They were very nice in pleasant when it was time for me to move in and sign the lease. Once I was here and the problems began to emerge the realtor from Coral Shores Realty dissappeared and is refusing to answer my phone calls and is instucting the owner not to give me my money back. Only a person of the most vile and cruel nature would do such a thing, I have been here for less than two weeks, I moved all my stuff here, rented a Budget truck for 140 dollars, paid to clean the house that was not cleaned as it said in the lease prior to my move in, and now find it is infested with cockroaches. Enough is enough, I have been patient, kind, and compromising, but now they are taking advantage off me and want to keep my money telling me to live in these horrible conditions for 60 days. This realtor from Coral Shores Realtor is a really low and vile person who just wants to dump me and avoid my phone calls to keep her comission, telling the owner not to let me leave and not to give me my money back and make me live like an animal for 60 days in a roach infested house, for $2200 dollars per month. What a realty company, where is the customer satisfaction, the ethical conduct and behavior? Isn’t it the right thing to do in this case? Instruct the owner to let the tenant leave if the conditions of the lease are not satisfied? Must I go and hire an attorney to prevent them from trampling on my rights? What kind of company is this? What kind of scam artist slime people do they have working there? This is one of the most unfortunate and troublesome issues I have ever had to deal with. It is a good thing I documented the house with many photographs. I am confident a court of law will uphold my rights and compensate me for my emotional state during this ordeal and my total loss of peace and happiness due to this companies agents greed.
