Complaint: I have made a report to the Department of Professional Licensing in utah (DOPL) about a physician performing a vaginal procedure on me without gaining my consent. The law in utah states that DOPL is able to fine physicians for violating the AMA’s code of ethics, and failing to get informed consent for a procedure is a violation of the AMA’s code of ethics. I reported the physician and the department told me that the results of the investigation are private. I was offended that I was not allowed to know the result of the investigation so I emailed the department. The woman who was in charge of the investigation claimed that it was thorough and complete, even though she had gotten basic details about the investigation wrong. I asked repeatedly if there was a way to fix the report and she told me it would remain closed. I have no received any sort of answer about why the law says one thing, and the DOPL employees say another. I have had the same sort of experience when I recently tried to report a LCSW for professional misconduct by perjuring herself in court. They are worse than useless, they embolden and allow for patient abuses by failing to fine medical professionals who mistreat their patients.
